MAGNUS SPL — Saving People’s Lives

Role: Brand & Marketing Designer (Brand Identity · Visual Language · Product Merchandise)
Timeline: 2023–2024
Tools: Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, Figma

Project Summary

SPL (Saving People’s Lives) is a volunteer initiative by MAGNUS Search and Rescue, designed to support Israeli travelers worldwide through a global community of trained volunteers who can assist in emergencies abroad.

I designed the visual identity of the SPL initiative, including the logo, brand language, and a series of illustrated patches distributed and sold to volunteers.

These patches are attached to travelers’ backpacks, creating visibility for the initiative among Israeli and international travelers and helping expand awareness of the volunteer rescue network worldwide.

Overview

  • MAGNUS operates internationally in search, rescue, and crisis response missions. The SPL initiative extends this mission by building a global volunteer network able to provide rapid assistance to travelers in need.

  • The branding needed to communicate safety, travel, and community while remaining approachable and recognizable across diverse cultural contexts.

Challenge

  • Create a recognizable identity connected to rescue and travel culture

  • Design visuals appealing to young travelers and volunteers

  • Ensure the branding works across merchandise and physical environments

  • Transform marketing items into functional awareness tools

Process

  • Designed the SPL logo and visual identity system

  • Defined color palette and brand language reflecting travel, safety, and community

  • Created illustrated patches designed for backpacks and travel gear

  • Developed designs that function both as branding and as collectible travel items

Solution

A visual identity and merchandise system that integrates naturally into travel culture.

By attaching SPL patches to backpacks, volunteers and travelers become ambassadors of the initiative, organically spreading awareness of the rescue support network while traveling around the world.

The patches function simultaneously as branding, community symbols, and marketing tools.

Results & Impact

  • Increased visibility of the SPL initiative among travelers

  • Strong adoption of branded patches by volunteers and travelers

  • Creation of a recognizable identity within travel communities

My Contribution

Logo design, brand language development, merchandise design, and visual identity assets supporting the SPL initiative.
